TCP9110 - The maximum threshold for SNTP Client errors has been reached.

Troubleshooting

Problem

TCP9110 - The maximum threshold for SNTP Client errors has been reached.

Symptom

TCP9110 - The maximum threshold for SNTP Client errors has been reached

Resolving The Problem

This message will be posted in QSYSOPR when the same error message is posted 36 times in the
QTOTNTP job log without any recovery taking place. It is posted to notify the user than a problem has occurred. If recovery for an error takes place, the count for that message is reset, and the count will begin again if message re-occurs at a different time.

Each time the NTP client does not get a response from the time server, it tries to resolve the server host name and will post a TCP9125 message to show the result.

I suggest to use the nslookup tool to check if the name server always returns the same ip address as this could be a DNS server cache issue on the client end.
