Error description

  • When a AFM-COS fileset is exported as SMB share,
copy an uncached file from a SMB client might fail.

    Reported In:
    Spectrum Scale 5.1.0.1

    Known Impact:
    Copy failure

    Verification steps:
You might see below error logs in the GPFS log file of
    AFM-COS fileset's gateway node:
    /var/adm/ras/mmfs.log.latest:

[E] AFM: Read file system gpfsfs fileset afmcos-fileset
file IDs [1055744.1055744.-1.-1,N] name / remote error 13
    Permission denied
[I] AFM: Previous error repeated 3 times.
[E] AFM: SetXAttr file system gpfsfs fileset
afmcos-fileset file IDs [-1.1055745.-1.-1,N] name remote
    error 2
: Specified entity, such as a disk or file system, does
    not exist.

Local fix

  • 1. Open the uncached file directly to trigger the
    caching,
and then copy the file after file fully cached.
    - or -
    2. Copy the uncached file directly from CES node

Problem summary

  • Copy of uncached file from Samba share
    fails with object backend while
writing data to cache. There is another issue if
setXattr operation is in the queue, a sync read
for the same file fails to return
    data to the application.

Problem conclusion

  • Benefits of the solution:
No more object backend errors. No more failed reads.

    Work Around:
Add node names to /etc/hosts file

    Problem trigger:
    Read uncached file from Samba
    share of the AFM cache.

    Symptom:
    Read operation fails.

    Platforms affected:
    Linux Only

    Functional Area affected:
    AFM

    Customer Impact:
