Error description
On an IBM Spectrum protect server running on AIX only, issuing 'DELETE VOLUME' or 'AUDIT VOLUME' commands against volumes within a copy storage pool, may see the dsmserv process using an increasing amount of memory. A memory leak occurs in the bfResolveSuperBitfileEx module as allocated memory is not freed correctly after processing and may cause spectrum protect server to crash. Customer/Support Diagnostics: Reviewing servermon or separately captured SHOW ALLOC data from SP Server admin command line before, during and after delete volume / audit volume command will show increasing value of bytes stored against the bfResolveSuperBitfileEx module: << running show alloc before delete / audit volume will show: bfaggrut.c line 1056: 19350 entries for 232200000 bytes (bfResolveSuperBitfileEx) thread 1611483() running show alloc during delete / audit vol will show: bfaggrut.c line 1056: 41470 entries for 497640000 bytes (bfResolveSuperBitfileEx) thread 1611483() bfaggrut.c line 1056: 60437 entries for 725244000 bytes (bfResolveSuperBitfileEx) thread 1611483() running show alloc after delete / audit vol will show: bfaggrut.c line 1056: 74122 entries for 889464000 bytes (bfResolveSuperBitfileEx) thread 1611483() >> IBM Spectrum Protect versions affected: IBM Spectrum Server version 8.1.9 and above on AIX | MDVREGR 8.1.9.000-TIV_5698MSV | Initial Impact: Low Additional Keywords:Memory leak DELETE VOLUME AUDIT VOLUME TS003599464 core crash
