Error description
Scalable VG fails to varyonvg in active concurrent mode when mirrored storage is in failed state, where as regular VG (small VG) succeeds when quorum is disabled. NOTE:Both scalable and small VG's are varied on in passive mode succesfully and then mirrored storage was failed before varyonvg in active concurrent mode. (Both VGs are quorum disabled) It fails with the following error messages. # varyonvg -ncA scalablevg 0516-062 varyonvg: Unable to read or write logical volume manager record. PV may be permanently corrupted. Run diagnostics # varyonvg -ncA smallvg PV Status: hdisk3 00f87c4bf90ec249 PVMISSING hdisk4 00f87c4bf90ec64f PVACTIVE varyonvg: Volume group smallvg is varied on.
Local fix
use force option to varyonvg in a concurrent mode after varied on in passive mode. #varyonvg -f -ncA VG_NAME
Problem summary
varyonvg -A of an SVG may fail if a LUN is disabled on the storage, or if otherwise some error allows open() of the disk, but fails read().
Problem conclusion
Modify logic to save data from readable disks rather than openable disks, to allow varyonvg -A to proceed.
Temporary fix
