Summary

There is a vulnerability in the Apache MyFaces library used by WebSphere Application Server Liberty.

Vulnerability Details

CVEID:   CVE-2021-26296
DESCRIPTION:   Apache MyFaces is vulnerable to cross-site request forgery, caused by improper validation of user-supplied input. By persuading an authenticated user to visit a malicious Web site, a remote attacker could send a malformed HTTP request to perform unauthorized actions. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to perform cross-site scripting attacks, Web cache poisoning, and other malicious activities.

Affected Products and Versions

This vulnerability affects all versions of Liberty for Java in IBM Cloud up to and including v3.55.

Remediation/Fixes

The fix is included in Liberty for Java v3.56-20210409-1236 alternate WebSphere Application Server Liberty runtime.

To upgrade to Liberty for Java v3.56-20210409-1236 or higher:
1.  Use the alternate WebSphere Application Server Liberty runtime by setting the following parameters
            ibmcloud cf set-env <appname> JBP_CONFIG_LIBERTY "version: +"
            ibmcloud cf set-env <appname> IBM_LIBERTY_MONTHLY true
2.  Re-stage or re-push your application

To find the current version of Liberty for Java in IBM Cloud being used, from the command-line Cloud Foundry client by running the following commands:

cf ssh <appname> -c cat "staging_info.yml"

Look for the following lines:

{“detected_buildpack”:“Liberty for Java(TM) (WAR, liberty-21.0.0_3, buildpack-v3.55-20210311-1642, ibmjdk-1.8.0_sr6fp26-20210216, env)“,”start_command”:“.liberty/initial_startup.rb”}

To re-stage your application using the command-line Cloud Foundry client, use the following command:

cf restage <appname>

To re-push your application using the command-line Cloud Foundry client, use the following command:

cf push <appname>
