Troubleshooting
Problem
This document discusses an issue where spooled files printing in a condensed or compressed font on a dot matrix or line printer when using Host Print Transform (HPT).
Resolving The Problem
Spooled files are printing in a condensed or compressed font on a dot matrix or line printer when using Host Print Transform (HPT). This can occur whether printing through a Remote Output Queue (RMTOUTQ), a *LAN 3812 SNMP printer device description, or a PC5250 or TN5250e printer session.
Host Print Transform (HPT) will perform its Computer Output Reduction (COR) processing to automatically compress the font on a dot matrix or line printer when the Manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) parameter indicates that the printer is narrow-carriange printer, in other words that it has an 8.0 inch print line, and the spooled file is wider than 80 columns with the Degree of page rotation (PAGRTT) parameter set to *AUTO or *COR.
This problem can be resolved by generating the spooled file with a page width of 80 columns and with the Degree of page rotation (PAGRTT) parameter set to *AUTO or 0. However, it can also be resolved by configuring the Remote Output Queue (RMTOUTQ) to indicate that it is a wide-carriage printer, in other words that it has a 13.2 inch print line. This can be done by doing one of the following:
| o | Change the Manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) parameter to specify a wide-carriage version of the same type of dot matrix printer, such as using *IBM42021 instead of *IBM42011, using *EPFX1170 instead of *EPFX870, or using *OKI321IBM instead of *OKI320IBM. |
| o | Change the Manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) parameter to specify *WSCSTCONT132 and change the Workstation customizing object (WSCST) parameter to the system-supplied workstation customizing object that corresponds to the current MFRTYPMDL setting, such as using QWPIBM4202 for *IBM42011, using QWPEFX1170 for *EPFX870, or using QWPOKI320 for *OKI320IBM. |
| 1. | The preferred method for printing spooled files without performing Computer Output Reduction (COR) on ASCII dot matrix or line printers is to have the printer device description or Remote Output Queue (RMTOUTQ) setup to print on wide-carriage or 13.2 inch continuous forms and to have the Degree of page rotation (PAGRTT) parameter in the spooled file attributes set to *AUTO or 0, not *COR. |
