Problem
This document provides information about a problem where two IBM 6400 IPDS printers are formfeeding a preprinted form incorrectly. The preprinted form is 8.5 inches long, but the printer is formfeeding as if it were 11.0 inches long.
Resolving The Problem
Two IBM 6400 IPDS printers are formfeeding a preprinted form incorrectly. The preprinted form is 8.5 inches long, but the printer is formfeeding as if it were 11.0 inches long.
Note: The information in this document could apply to any IPDS-capable line matrix printer, such as an IBM or InfoPrint 4247 IPDS printer or an InfoPrint 6500 IPDS printer.
The attributes of the spooled file specify a page length of 8.5 inches; however, the Recall Custom Set on the IBM 6400 IPDS printer specifies a page length of 11.0 inches. This problem can be resolved by changing the Recall Custom Set to have a page length of 8.5 inches or by changing how the printer is configured on the IBM Power Systems so IBM Print Services Facility/400 (PSF/400) will override the page size specified in the printer hardware.
To change the Recall Custom Set, follow the instructions in the IBM 6400 Line Matrix Printer Operator's Guide for Models 050, 010, and 015, S544-5641. To change how the printer is configured on the system, do the following:
| 1. | Use the End Writer (ENDWTR) command to end the printer writer: ENDWTR WTR(printer-name) |
| 2. | Use the Vary Configuration (VRYCFG) command to vary off the printer device description: VRYCFG CFGOBJ(printer-name) CFGTYPE(*DEV) STATUS(*OFF) |
| 3. | Use the Create PSF Configuration (CRTPSFCFG) command to create a PSF Configuration (PSFCFG) Object with the Page size control (PAGSIZCTL) parameter set to *YES: CRTPSFCFG PSFCFG(QGPL/psfcfg-name) PAGSIZCTL(*YES) |
| 4. | Use the Change Device Desc (Printer) (CHGDEVPRT) command to set the Form feed (FORMFEED) parameter to *CONT, and to set the User-defined object (USRDFNOBJ) parameter to refer to the PSF Configuration (PSFCFG) object: CHGDEVPRT DEVD(printer-name) FORMFEED(*CONT) USRDFNOBJ(QGPL/psfcfg-name *PSFCFG) |
| 5. | Use the Vary Configuration (VRYCFG) command to vary on the printer device description: VRYCFG CFGOBJ(printer-name) CFGTYPE(*DEV) STATUS(*ON) |
| 6. | Use the Start Print Writer (STRPRTWTR) command to start the printer writer: STRPRTWTR DEV(printer-name) |
