1. Customers who use CSM installed on DS8000 HMCs
2. Have updated to CSM Version 6.2.10 or higher using DSCLI
3. Planning to update their microcode level to affected bundles listed below:

DS8900F - R9.1 GA - 89.10.92.0 or below

DS8880 - R8.5 SP7 - 88.57.8.0 or below

Abstract

DS8000 microcode bundle update may back-level CSM installed on the HMC

Description

If CSM version 6.2.10 or higher was manually installed on the HMC using DSCLI, and the DS8000 microcode is updated to any of the bundles listed above in the Affected Domain, CSM will be back-leveled to the version delivered in the bundle. CSM will fail to start up until the version that was in use is reinstalled.
All existing Copy Services relationships will continue to function on the DS8000 systems.

To verify the CSM version installed on the HMC(s), use the DSCLI command "lssoftware - l" (minus ell).

Refer to the Release Notes page for DS8900F or DS8880, for the CSM version that is included in a specific bundle.

Mitigation
Install a bundle higher than the affected DS8000 domain listed above, or reinstall CSM after the microcode update.
