Error description

  • When trying to maximize throughput of their simple RPT 10.0.2
    HTTP test, a customer found that a request which contained a
    substitution from the Sequential Number built-in datasource was
    taking substantially longer to execute than expected.  The
    datasource was configured to be shared across all users
    ("Execute for individual user" was not checked) so that each
    user would get a unique value.  Further testing showed that
    accessing this datasource could take over a 1000 times longer
    than a non-shared Sequential Number datasource (where "Execute
    for individual user" was checked).  It is understandable that
    there would be some increased access time with the shared
    datasource due to the need to coordinate access among the users
    but this degree of increase seems unreasonable, especially since
    the Sequential Number access time is 100s of times larger than
    the time for a shared dataset.
    

Local fix

  • As a workaround, the customer created a dataset with sequential
    numbers and used this, with Open mode set to "Shared (per test
    execution) and Access mode set to Sequential, instead of the
    Sequential Number datasource.
