Error description

  • A user of the FEC common code component will encounter message
    
      CQM153E return code 8, reason code 3
    
    when attempting to convert from one CCSID to another when there
    is no direct conversion available.
    
    
    This service provides common code processing to permit indirect
    Unicode conversion service through UNICODE CCSID 1200.
    
    FOR EXAMPLE:
    The conversion requested may be from CCSID 500 to CCSID 8229.
    Unicode conversion services support states than a "direct"
    conversion between the two CCSIDs is not available, but an
    "in-direct" one is available, from
      CCSID 500 --> CCSID 1200 --> CCSID 8829.
    
    Common code processing has been changed to allow applications
    to invoke the conversion services to attempt indirect
    conversions between CCSIDs via the following process:
    
    * Request conversion for CCSID 500 --> CCSID 8829
    
    * Unicode conversion services returns
      return code 8, reason code 3 indicating no direct conversion
    
    * Common code then requests conversion for
      CCSID 500 --> CCSID 1200
    
    * If this is successful common code then requests conversion for
      CCSID 1200 --> CCSID 8829
    
    * If this is successful common code has successfully processed
      and will return the "in-direct" conversion.
    
    * If either of the common code attempts at "in-direct"
      conversion fails then return code 8, reason code 3 is
      returned and reported thereby indicating there is not an
      indirect path available.
