Setting Authorities for New Integrated File System Directory Objects

Troubleshooting

Problem

This documents the authority that the owner and public will have when a new object is created in the Integrated File System.

Resolving The Problem

The owner of a new Integrated File System object inherits the "--Object Authorities--" from the owner of the parent directory. *PUBLIC has the same object authorities to the new object that it has to the parent directory. As new subdirectories are created at lower levels, the owner and *PUBLIC automatically inherit the object authority from the parent directory. After an object or another directory is created, the authority may be changed. Some applications are set up to change authorities differently than described here.

The above is true regardless of whether the directories and their objects are in the root file system or in the QDLS file system. There is the following exception: the QDLS file system automatically grants owners of newly created files *ALL authority to their files. This is working as designed.

The rules regarding group profile ownership of newly created objects do not apply to Integrated File System objects. All Integrated File System objects are owned by the user who created the object. Thus, if the creating user profile has a group profile and the profile parameter OWNER is set to *GRPPRF, then the group profile does not receive ownership (the Integrated File System object is owned by the user who created the object).
