QMSF Active in a Status of DEQW - Nothing Being Received or Sent

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document shows how to turn on job logging if QMSF is active but in a DEQW status.

Resolving The Problem

With the capabilities of using the Internet to send and receive mail, QMSF may receive a document with a header that is not valid. In many cases, when QMSF does not know what to do with a problem piece of mail, it stops processing and sits in a DEQW status.

To find out what the problem is, do the following:

1.To change the QMSF job to log to start logging messages, on the operating system command line type the following:

CHGJOBD JOBD(QSYS/QMSF) LOG(4 00 *SECLVL)

Press the Enter key.
2.To end QMSF, on the operating system command line type the following:

ENDMSF

Press the Enter key.
3.To start QSMF, on the operating system command line type the following:

STRMSF MSGOPT(*RESET) NBRMSFJOB(1)

Press the Enter key.
QMSF may run for a few minutes then stop in DEQW status. When this happens, check the job log for QMSF for any messages that may be logged. Take the appropriate action based on the messages.

Note: It is not recommended to start QMSF with *CLEAR. This will clear out all incomplete distributions. For customers who have high users of QMSF, this may clearly be detrimental to their systems.
