Error description

  • When a Db2 HPU step requires a huge amount of memory leading to
a memory outage, the step usually fails with a memory outage
    related ABEND.
This kind of failure should be avoided, as much as possible, by
checking if the estimated amount of memory required for a given
single unloaded is available before starting it and flush to
cancel it and flush any remaining unload that has not been
processed when the insufficient memory situation is detected.
When such a situation is detected, Db2 HPU should also issue a
message to indicate the memory use.
As the amount of memory cannot always be estimated very
accurately, especially when sort processes are involved, this
mechanism will not prevent any memory outage to occur. A message
about the available memory and the estimated memory needed by an
unload should be issued before any new unload is started to help
diagnose a potential issue related to a memory outage.
