Abstract
Upgrading AFM cache (or primary) cluster's gateway node to RHEL 8.3(Kernel 4.18.0-240.el8 or higher) can cause data mismatch between cache (or primary) and home (or secondary) sites.

Problem Summary:
IBM has identified a problem where AFM might fail to sync data or metadata between cache (or primary) and home (or secondary) if Kernel 4.18.0-240.el8 or higher is involved as cluster's gateway node in AFM replication.This corruption can be seen when gateway node [RHEL 8.3(Kernel 4.18.0-240.el8)or higher] performs revalidation with home site. Home changes might not be detected by gateway node and skips the required data or metadata updates causing data or metadata mismatch between cache and home sites.
Users Affected:
Users who upgraded cluster's gateway node to RHEL 8.3(Kernel 4.18.0-240.el8 or higher) and have started doing changes at home site and looking for cache site should detect the changes and correct it. Here due to revalidation failure, data or metadata changes at home cannot be detected by cache site and leave the AFM fileset with data or metadata mismatch.
Problem Determination:
When users start performing data or metadata changes at home site and run resync operation from cache site to sync the data. While performing revalidation operation from cache site to home site, it may not detect any changes at home site and fails to sync the data or metadata from cache site to home site.
Recommendations:
Users running IBM Spectrum Scale V5.0.0.0 through V5.0.5.5 levels should apply IBM Spectrum Scale V5.0.5.6 or later.
Users running IBM Spectrum Scale V5.1.0.0 through V5.1.0.2 level should apply IBM Spectrum Scale V5.1.0.3 or later.
