Error description

  • In IBM Developer for z/OS - IDz - v14.2, attempts to connect to
    a DB2 database from the Database explorer fails with error:

    Could not connect to DB1.test.
    Error creating SQL Model Connection connection to DB1.test.
    (Error: [jcc][t4][10205][11235][4.24.92] Null password is not
    supported. ERRORCODE=-4461, SQLSTATE=42815)
    [jcc][t4][10205][11235][4.24.92] Null password is not supported.
    ERRORCODE=-4461, SQLSTATE=42815
    Error creating JDBC Connection connection to DB1.test. (Error:
    [jcc][t4][10205][11235][4.24.92] Null password is not supported.
    ERRORCODE=-4461, SQLSTATE=42815)
    [jcc][t4][10205][11235][4.24.92] Null password is not supported.
    ERRORCODE=-4461, SQLSTATE=42815

    The problem happens when "z/OS Connect Server Properties" has
    been selected on the Connection dialog.
    With certain locales like Japanese, "z/OS Connect Server
    Properties" is the first item and selected by default.
    With English locale, "z/OS Connect Server Properties" needs to
    be selected explicitly to reproduce the problem.

    Steps to reproduce the problem:

    - Start IDz with English locale -nl en_US
    - Open the Data Perspective
    - On the Data Explorer, create a new DB2 z/OS connection with
    userid and password
    - Click Finish to connect to DB2 z/OS and observe that it
    connects successfully.
    - Disconnect
    - Connect again but before clicking "Finish", click first on
    "z/OS Connect Server Properties"
    - Click back on "Driver Properties" and enter the same userid
    and password
    - Click Finish and observe the above error

    Same defect exists in IBM Data Studio under APAR IT34535

Local fix

  • Do not select "z/OS Connect Server Properties" before clicking
    "Finish".

    With Japanese locale, user can enter an incorrect password and
    click on "Finish".
    A new popup dialog is opened to reenter the password.
    Enter the correct password this time and click OK

Problem summary

  • Fixed check to use the properties from the connection profile.

Problem conclusion
