Seeing CM-SYS-5144 in audit.log of IBM Cognos Content Manager an hour after restarting

Troubleshooting


Problem

Some users observe hanging in IBM Cognos Analytics UI / SDK. The issue always start a particular time after a restart.

Symptom

  • Content Store resides in an Oracle database
  • There is a firewall between IBM Cognos Content Manager and Oracle server
  • The message "CM-SYS-5144 While processing your request, Content Manager locked a number of objects for ... seconds" is logged periodically in the cogaudit.log of Content Manager
  • The above messages are always followed by

All the above messages are followed by the network time out exception in Oracle JDBC driver:

java.io.IOException: Connection timed out  

at sun.nio.ch.FileDispatcherImpl.read0(Native Method)  

at sun.nio.ch.SocketDispatcher.read(SocketDispatcher.java:51)  

at sun.nio.ch.IOUtil.readIntoNativeBuffer(IOUtil.java:235)

at sun.nio.ch.SocketChannelImpl.read(SocketChannelImpl.java:394)  

at oracle.net.nt.TimeoutSocketChannel.read(TimeoutSocketChannel.java:144)
