You can use reservation groups to reserve permits for particular users and client computers.
Reservation groups help to:
-Ensure that permits are available when they are required.
-Balance the use of applications between individuals, teams, or departments.
-Prevent unauthorized use of applications.
To ensure the availability of a permit, a user, or client computer can be added to a reservation group for a feature and marked as included. To prevent the use of an application, the user or client computer can be marked as excluded.
For further information regarding reservation groups, see the IBM Knowledge Center: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSXW43_9.0.2/com.ibm.i2.pam.admin.doc/c_reservationgroups.html
Create a reservation file in WlmAdmin
Sentinel RMS License Manager 9.5.0
Make sure that any reservation files you have previously created are deleted so that we can start from fresh.
1. Verifying that WlmAdmin has no reservation file in place (Reserved = 0)
2. Open Wlsgrmgr using Edit->Reservation File. Then create a New reservation file:
3. Add features to the Reservation file.
4. Name group and select amount of tokens. I am reserving just 1 license for this example.
5. Determine what type of license this will be. My example is for Analyst's Notebook. Feature Version must remain at "1", regardless of your ANB version. We are not using Capacity licensing so this may remain blank. The feature names are the following:
| Product |
Features
|
| Analyst's Notebook |
IBMANB.main
|
|
Analyst's Notebook Premium
|
IBMANB.main
IBMANB.ARConnector
|
|
iBase
|
IBMiBase.main
IBMiBaseDesigner.main
|
Note: Here, ensure that you do not enter anything into any of the 'Capacity' options. IBM i2 does not use Capacity licenses for Product Access Management. Entering a value here will cause the reservation file to fail.
6. Add users/machines to your file. I have added the user "ibmadmin", a user that I use to login from different VMs.
7. After "Finishing" the reservation file, I can view it in Wlsgrmgr appearing as such.
8. We must now navigate to the following path, which is the location of the WinNT folder. Make sure that there are not multiple instances of the WinNT folder on your machine. That would be possible if you have upgraded Sentinel from an older version and there are two installations.
9. For example, on my machine I can see two WlmAdmin (Sentinel RMS) installations because I had upgraded from version 8.4 to 9.5. One of the Sentinel RMS installations belongs to iBase, while my later one comes from Analyst's Notebook.
10. After finding the correct path, I save the "lsreserv" file in the proper WinNT folder. The filename must remain as "lsreserv". Make sure it does not appear as "lsreserv1".
11. Afterwards, I navigate to services.msc and restart the Sentinel RMS License Manager for the changes to take effect.
12. In WlmAdmin, I refresh everything.
13. I can now see my Reservation File become active:
14. On a separate machine, while logged in as user: "ibmadmin", I open up Analyst's Notebook, pointing to the "i2-Products" PAM server. I should now receive the Reserved permit. If I refresh the WlmAdmin tool, I can see this take place.
Note: No changes have been made to the system environmental variables; nothing has been set or removed.
