IT35600: VMS DO NOT FAIL BACKUP IF INVENTORY AT START OF JOB IS UNABLE TOCOMPLETE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• In some failure modes, a VM can fail during the inventory job.
  Failure is visible in the inventory job log and the Virgo log
  for that VM.
  Nevertheless, the backup job continues, and this
  results in an orphan full backup for that VM, consuming more
  space than is necessary on the vSnap.
  This affects all versions of IBM Spectrum Protect Plus from
  10.1.0 to 10.1.7.
  

Local fix

• Orphan backups can be manually cleaned up on the vSnap.

Problem conclusion

• Error handling for the error message:
  "UNABLE_GET_CATALOGED_VIRTUAL_MACHINE" in a backup job was
  corrected to ensure that the VM fails immediately if it can't be
  resolved or inventoried.
