Troubleshooting
Problem
The Access for Windows Navigator provides an option to Start the IBM i Access Host Servers; however, it cannot start some of them.
Resolving The Problem
The Access for Windows Navigator provides an option to Start the IBM i Access Host Servers. To access this option, do the following:
|
1. | Expand My Connections. |
| 2. | Expand the system you are trying to change. |
| 3. | Expand Network. |
| 4. | Expand Servers. |
| 5. | Click iSeries Access or System i Access. |
| 6. | Right-click individual server for options. |
| o | A server communications error has occurred. Please contact your next level of support. |
| o | An error occurred while opening the QATOCSTART file on system |
| o | An error occurred while starting server Database (or Remote Command). |
The reason for these failures is that the Access for Windows Navigator uses Database and Remote Command connections to start the other servers. Because these servers must be active for the function to work, the Access for Windows Navigator cannot be used to start Database or Remote Command host servers. The STRHOSTSVR *DATABASE command or the STRHOSTSVR *RMTCMD command must be used from an IBM i OS command line. This is working as designed.
