Time Required to Run Reclaim Storage

Troubleshooting

Problem

Can I determine in advance how long a reclaim storage (RCLSTG) will take to run on my system?

Resolving The Problem

Can I determine in advance how long a reclaim storage (RCLSTG) will take to run on my system?

The runtime for a RCLSTG is so variable that there is no standard formula to determine exactly how long it will take. However, there is a data area that can be displayed to see how long the last RCLSTG took to run (providing a RCLSTG was previously run on the system).

Note: At R540 and later, the RCLSTG ESTIMATE(*YES) option can be run to assist with determining an estimate of how long the RCLSTG command takes to complete.

On the operating system command line, type the following:

DSPDTAARA DTAARA(QRCLSTG)

Press the Enter key.

Prior to R610, you will see a display that looks similar to this:

                             Display Data Area
