Troubleshooting
Problem
This document describes some suggested actions to perform if the DSPPTF command shows a PTF with a status of Temporarily applied - IPL.
Resolving The Problem
Problem: A user applied an LIC, in this case, it is PTF 5722999 - MH00099, and performed multiple IPLs to activate it; however, the PTF status is Temporarily applied - IPL. What steps are required to activate this PTF?
Resolution: There are multiple potential reasons why the PTF may not be active. To resolve the problem, you should do the following:
| 1. | Issue the command DSPSYSVAL QABNORMSW to verify that the previous end is set to 0, which indicates that the last IPL was normal. PTFs are applied and activated only during a normal IPL. |
| 2. | Issue the command GO LICPGM and select Option 50 to review the PTF installation history. Look for any error messages that relate to that particular PTF, in this case it would be for 5722999 - MH00099. |
| 3. | Issue the command DSPPTF. Near the top of the screen, look for the IPL source and verify that it is ##MACH#B rather than ##MACH#A. |
| 4. | If the system is LPARed, then ensure that the PTF in question is applied on the primary LPAR as well as the secondary LPAR. |
| 5. | Issue the command DSPPTF LICPGM(5722999) SELECT(MH00099) and select Option 1 (General information). Page down to the parameter Server IPL required. It might have a value of ##SERV#T, which means: A server IPL to the T (temporary) side is required to activate the changes for the PTF. A server IPL from source T (temporary, which is similar to the B side) rather than from source P (permanent, which is similar to the A side) is required. To perform this IPL, perform system panel function 02 to change the next IPL source to B N T, and perform an unattended IPL to activate 5722999 - MH00099. |
