Resolving The Problem
When you are slip installing or scratching LIC, the service tools password required depends on where you are in the process and what media you are using to perform the restore or installation. This document describes what password to use based on where you are in the process and what media you are using.
During the D-mode part of the IPL, DST reads the user IDs and passwords from the media. Therefore, the user IDs and passwords on the media are used.
For IBM-supplied media, the default of QSECOFR/QSECOFR is used together with the other IBM-defined user IDs and passwords. For SAVSYS or distribution (DSLO) media, the profiles and passwords from the source machine are used. After the SLIC installation, the system IPLs back to the A-side.
If the system was scratch installed, the user IDs and passwords are from the media that was used because they have been restored from the media. One exception is the QSECOFR ID where the password is reset to QSECOFR. This will also be the case with the operating system QSECOFR user profile. It will be reset to the default password of QSECOFR.
If the system was slip installed, the user IDs and passwords from the target system (system being restored to) are in effect. No DST profiles or passwords are restored from media. No passwords require modification.
Note: During the D-mode part of the IPL, you cannot sign into DST and change any service tools profile passwords, and you cannot reset the QSECOFR OS password.
