IBM OS/400 or IBM i5/OS FTP Client Timeout Value

Troubleshooting

Problem

The IBM OS/400 or IBM i5/OS FTP client has a default inactivity timeout of 10 minutes. There are times when that value must be modified.

Resolving The Problem

The IBM OS/400 or IBM i5/OS FTP client has a default inactivity timeout of 10 minutes. There are times when that value must be modified to a higher or lower value. To accomplish this,
establish the FTP connection to the remote system and sign on with the proper user profile and password. The next command to enter is:

DEBUG T1 N (where N is the number of seconds you want to use as the client inactivity timer for the control connection)
-AND/OR-
DEBUG T2 N (where N is the number of seconds you want to use as the client inactivity timer for the data connection)

This change takes effect only for the current FTP session and is not a permanent change. The maximum value will be 32767 for both T1 and T2.
