Problem
There is a problem with the IBM System i5 prompter that causes the CRTNWSCFG and CHGNWSCFG commands to work incorrectly when configuring additional ports in a remote system configuration object (*RMTSYS).
Resolving The Problem
The remote interfaces (RMTIFC) parameter of the create and change NWS configuration commands (CRTNWSCFG and CHGNWSCFG) are used to configure ports for each HBA in an initiator. When more than one iSCSI HBA port is available in the xSeries or blade server, an additional pair of addresses is required for each port (a port corresponds to an HBA in an IBM xSeries). When using the CL command prompter to prompt the CRTNWSCFG and CHGNWSCFG commands to configure or modify additional ports, incorrect command prompting behavior occurs. The following examples illustrate some of the symptoms that you might see:
| o | After prompting the CRTNWSCFG or CHGNWSCFG command, you should type a plus sign ( + ) by the remote interfaces parameter to show additional sets of values. Then, press the Enter key. After doing this, the page up and page down keys no longer work on the command prompt display. |
| o | Start with a remote system configuration object that already has two remote interfaces defined. Type CHGNWSCFG rmtsysname (where rmtsysname is your remote system configuration name), and press F4 to prompt the command. Page down to the second set of values on the remote interfaces parameter, and change one of the values (for example, change the SCSI interface Internet address), and press the Enter key. Message CPD96D5 "Remote SCSI and LAN interfaces cannot both be *NONE" is shown at the bottom of the prompt display. Page down to the remote interfaces parameter again, and you will see that the first set of remote interface values have all been changed to blanks. Press F3 to exit the prompt display. Then, press F9 to retrieve the command string. You will see that ((*N)) is shown for the first set of values on the RMTIFC parameter. |
| o | Use the iSeries Navigator GUI to create or change the remote system configuration object. |
| o | On the operating system command line, do the following: 1. Create the remote system configuration with only one remote interface initially. Use the CL command prompter. It works with no problems when there is only one set of RMTIFC values. 2. Type CHGNWSCFG rmtsysname (where rmtsysname is your remote system configuration name), and press F4 to prompt the command. 3. Press F3 to exit the command prompter without changing anything. 4. If you are using an i5/OS menu display, run CALL QCMD to get to the Command Entry display so that you have more space for the CHGNWSCFG command string. 5. Press F9 to retrieve the full CHGNWSCFG command string to the command line. If the full command string is not shown in the available command entry area, press F11 to show more command entry lines. 6. Edit the command string on the command line to add another set of values to the RMTIFC parameter. Use the first set of RMTIFC parameter values as a guide for the syntax that is required for additional sets of RMTIFC parameter values. 7. Press the Enter key to run the command, and add the additional sets of RMTIFC values. |
