Determining the Partition ID Number on Version 5 or 6 HMC

Problem

This document describes how to use the Hardware Management Console (HMC) to determine the Logical Partition (LPAR) identifier.

Resolving The Problem

To determine the partition numbers on your IBM System i products, you must use the HMC GUI or access the HMC remotely by using WebSM.

1. Locate the desired partition under Server and Partition: Server Management.

The WebSM GUI with Server Management and  Partitions open is shown.

2. Right-click on a partition and select Properties.

Select Properties from the context menu.

3. On the General tab of the Partition Properties dialog, you will see the partition ID. This is the partition number. Repeat these steps for each partition, as needed.

The partition ID is shown on the general tab.

The Partition ID can also be found on the green screen:

1. Type GO SERVICE and press Enter.
2. Select Option 6 (Display service registration information).

Service Agent Registration screen is shown display the  LPAR ID.

The Retrieve Partition Information (dlpar_get_info) API can be used to pull various pieces of partition information, including the
partition ID.
