Abnormal IPL

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document provides a list of reasons of why an abnormal IPL can be flagged.

Resolving The Problem

An abnormal IPL can be caused by any of the following:

o

Using the End Job Abnormal (ENDJOBABN) command. To see if this command has been used, look for message CPC1124 in the job log. The system can also cause jobs to be ended abnormally so the job has been ended abnormally flag is set on the system. Any CPF1164 (job ended...) message in QHST that has an ending code of 80 or 90 reflects a job that was ended abnormally. Sometimes the system ends a job abnormally and is not able to generate the job log at that time because of a particular problem with the job. Sometimes this problem also prevents the system from issuing the CPF1164 message.
o Using Option 8 (Perform automatic installation of the operating system) on the Dedicated Service Tools (DST) menu.
o Using the Delayed Power Off switch rather than the Power Down System (PWRDWNSYS) command.
o A power failure occurring before all data is written from main storage to disk.
o Any B600 xxxx or B900 xxxx system reference code (where xxxx is any number or letter) during the IPL.
o A Power Down System (PWRDWNSYS) command that did not complete, ending with a system reference code of B900 3F10.
o Any function check in the controlling subsystem causing the system to end.
o The system going down when database recovery has not completed during the IPL.
