Expiration Date for BRMS Media

Troubleshooting

Problem

Due to the current design of BRMS, volumes cannot have an expiration date of any date after 12/31/2038.

Resolving The Problem

Due to the current design of BRMS, volumes cannot have an expiration date of any date after 12/31/2038. If it is necessary to have a volume active for a date after 12/31/2038, users must mark the volume as a *PERM.

Changing the expiration date for a volume to xx/xx/2039 results in the following message:

Message ID . . . . . . :   BRM1771
Message . . . . :   Date 12/31/39 is not valid.
Cause . . . . . :   Version retention changes are not allowed at the volume level.
Recovery  . . . :   To change version retention use option 13, Display contents, to change the files on the volume.

Changing the expiration date for a volume to xx/xx/2040 or greater results in the volume expiring.

Note: In releases IBM i 7.2 and later, BRMS supports creating media with an expiration date between 1990-2089
