Resolving The Problem

This document addresses a cause of the message "A remote host refused an attempted connect operation", which is received from IBM i Access for Web.

When trying to connect to the IBM i OS with IBM iSeries Access for Web, the following A remote host refused an attempted connect operation error message was received:

The Web Browser shows the iSeries Access for Web error message.
It was found that the IBM i Access Central Host Server (AS-CENTRAL) was not started. This Host Server is used for licensing the Access for Web connection. The NETSTAT *CNN command was used to verify that the as-central or port 8470 TCP listener was not there.

To start the IBM i Access Central Host Server, issue the STRHOSTSVR *CENTRAL command. The NETSTAT *CNN command can be used again to verify that the as-central or port 8470 listener is now there. The Access for Web connection should now be successful.
