Installation information

  • -Installing gpfs.ess.firmware

    Complete the following steps to install the fix package:

    1. Extract the update package (< filename >.tar file) with the command:

      tar -xvf < filename >.tar



    2.  
    3. Verify the update's RPM in the directory. Normally, the RPM images in this directory would be similar to the following:

      gpfs.ess.firmware-< update_version >.< arch >.rpm


      where
      < update_version > specifies the version number of the update you downloaded, for example, 6.0.0.1
      and
      < arch > specifies the system architecture, for example x86_64 for 64-bit System x

      For specific filenames, check the Readme for the GPFS update by clicking the "View" link for the update on the Download tab.



    4.  
    5. Remove the existing gpfs.ess.firmware rpm. On each ESS server node issue the following command:

      rpm -e gpfs.ess.firmware



    6.  
    7. Install the gpfs.ess.firmware rpm. On each ESS server node issue the following command:

      rpm -i gpfs.ess.firmware-< update_version >.< arch >.rpm



    8.  
    9. Use the mmchfirmware command documented in the GPFS Adminstration and Programming Reference to install the latest firmware.

    The rpm contained in the tar image with this README contains the latest firmware for ESS. It is a complete replacement for any previously installed gpfs.ess.firmware rpms and assumes that GPFS is installed.After the rpm is installed. The mmchfirmware command must be run to apply the firmware updates.
