Troubleshooting

Problem

This document describes how a user can check the status of the last run of BRMS control groups

Resolving The Problem

This document describes how a user can check the status of the last run of a BRMS control group. This BRMS function is available starting at V6R1M0 with PTF SI31653 applied .

Using BRMS GUI

Only the status of the *SYSTEM control group can be checked. To check the status of the last run, do the following:

1. Ensure that the BRMS GUI plug-in has been removed and reinstalled after SI31653 was applied
2. Open System i Navigator
3. Right-Click on Backup, Recovery and Media Services
4. Select Open Backup, Recovery and Media Services

The following panels explain the differences a user may see:

When the *SYSTEM control group has never been done or no *SYSTEM control group history records exist:

BRMS Welcome Screen

When the most recent *SYSTEM control group was successful:

BRMS Welcome Screen

When the most recent *SYSTEM control group completed with errors:

Displaying the BRMS error messages

When the most recent *SYSTEM control group completed with unexpected errors:

BRMS SAVSYS failed

5250 Emulation (Green Screen)

In green screen, the following option is available:

CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD PARM('CTLGSTATUS' '*DISPLAY')

The following output will be shown in the joblog.

AUTODUPE   *BKU *FAILED    1080520133003 189671 1080520.
*SYSTEM    *BKU *FAILED    1080612094059 226878 1080612.

NOMSGIFS   *BKU *SUCCESS   1080618084252 231088 1080618.

  •   The 2nd column is the control group type...only *BKU support.
  •   The 3rd column is status: *SUCCESS - means no problems, *FAILED means did not work, *QUALIFIED means some objects were not backed up.
  •   The 4th column is the date/time in CYYMMDDHHMMSS format.
  •  The 5th column is the job number.
