Power, Space and Weight Calculator for current and withdrawn IBM Tape products plus ORACLE/SUN/STK v3.83
This site contains a MS EXCEL files to calculate the power, weight and space requirements for a given configuration of an IBM Tape System Storage solution. It includes the attachment of a TS7700 VTS, TS3500 and TS4500 Tape Library, TS1120/30/40/50/55/60 Tape Drives and LTO Tape Drives all generations. As a special feature I have included some more sheets with the withdrawn products as 3494, B18, B10, B20, etc. plus in another two sheets I provide some SUN/STK library and drive power requirements (with latest ORACLE/SUN/STK power sheet from 9/2007). Also I used newest published IBM power numbers from the official Introduction and Planning Guides of each product. In the 2010 version v2.33 I added new product types of TS7680, LTO5 and updated TS7700 to latest R1.7 Cache types.In the 2011 version v2.4 and 2.41 I added new product types of TS7700 R2.0, TS1140 and 3592-C07 plus some bug fixes. The version v3.3 contains LTO6 and TS7700 R3.1 related numbers. The version v3.4 contains LTO7, TS1150 and the TS4500 as well TS7700 R4 (TS7760) related numbers.The version v3.5 contains LTO8, TS1155/60 plus some cosmetic changes and bug fixes.The version 3.6 was reworked and the values were aligned to the latest IBM Introduction and Planning Guides.The latest version 3.7 contains a completely reworked section/tables with length and areal requirements for the TS3500 and TS4500,The version 3.8 was updated with the new values for the IBM TS7770. The version 3.81 contains a fix for a wrong calculation.
The latest version 3.83 contains a updated links to the most recent TS7770 IPGs and Knowledge Centers and a calculation fix.
With this tool you can easily calculate TCO for power (including cooling), weight and needed space of your proposed configuration against an existing configuration. Fell free to change the price of 1KW/h to your currency in the upper left cell. Also you might adjust the cooling factor. The main version is based on EUR(€), so you may need to adjust it to your local currency. I prepared a version for United States (USD) as well in here. Also you can share this with your customer - keep in mind I use max. continuous operation values for power, no peak, no IDLE values - same as documented in our according IBM Introduction and Planning Guides.
