Problem
Restoring a file by using the recovery agent of IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments - Data Protection for VMware or IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments - Data Protection for Microsoft Hyper-V fails, due to different Microsoft Windows deduplication level.
Symptom
File-level restore (FLR) by using the recovery agent can fail due to the Microsoft Windows deduplication design.
Following are the possible file restore scenarios that will result in a different error, while the underlying issue is related:
- FLR for a backed-up Virtual Machine (VM,) with OS Microsoft Windows Server (2012 or 2012 R2) and deduplication enabled, by using a Windows mount proxy installed on Windows Server 2016 or 2019. The process fails with: "(0x80070519) The revision level is unknown" message.
- On the opposite, FLR for a backed-up VM, with OS Windows Server 2016 or 2019 and deduplication enabled, by using a Windows mount proxy installed on Windows Server 2012 R2.
The restore fails with error: "Service is not available". - FLR for a backed-up Virtual Machine (VM,) with OS Microsoft Windows Server 2019 and deduplication enabled, by using a Windows mount proxy installed on Windows Server 2016.
The process fails with: "(0x80070519) The revision level is unknown" message.
