PI79910: RESTART OF PRF-CONTROLLED JOB AFTER BACKING OUT OF IMS V15 TO A PRIOR RELEASE, GETS MSGIRT039E AND ABENDU3630

Error description

• When attempting to restart a PRF-controlled job after backing
  out of IMS V15 to a prior release, the restarted job generates
  the following error message along with ABEND U3630 :
    IRT039E NO IMSxx10 SUPPORT FOR IMS1510 EXTENDED RESTARTS.
  
  Additional issue found and addressed:
  When a PRF-controlled job restarts across release boundaries,
  PRF generates MSGIRT040I:
    IRT040I JOB RUN UNDER IMS xx10 RESTARTING UNDER IMS yy10.
  However, the version numbers are switched; the xx10 version is
  actually the version under which the job is restarting, and the
  yy10 version is actually the version under which the job was
  originally run.

Problem summary

• ****************************************************************
  * USERS AFFECTED: 1). All users of Program Restart Facility    *
  *                 V2R2 who wish to run Program Restart         *
  *                 Facility under IMS V15 QPP and attempt to    *
  *                 restart an abended job after reverting to a  *
  *                 prior version of IMS.                        *
  *                                                              *
  *                 2). All users of Program Restart Facility    *
  *                 who restart abended jobs on a different      *
  *                 version of IMS.                              *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1). When a job under PRF control abends *
  *                      in an IMS V15 QPP environment, and the  *
  *                      restart of the job is attempted under a *
  *                      prior version of IMS, IRT039E NO        *
  *                      IMSxx10 SUPPORT FOR IMS1510 EXTENDED    *
  *                      RESTARTS is generated. The 'xx' in the  *
  *                      'IMSxx10' portion of the message will   *
  *                      be replaced with the IMS version number *
  *                      of the IMS instance where the job is    *
  *                      being restarted. The job then           *
  *                      exeriences a U3630 abend.               *
  *                                                              *
  *                      2). When a job under PRF control abends *
  *                      and is restarted under a different      *
  *                      version of IMS, IRT040I JOB RUN UNDER   *
  *                      IMS xx10 RESTARTING UNDER IMS yy10 is   *
  *                      generated. 'xx' is supposed to be the   *
  *                      version of IMS where the job originally *
  *                      abended, while 'yy' is supposed to be   *
  *                      the version of IMS where the job is     *
  *                      restarting. These values were reversed. *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the PTF that corrects this APAR.       *
  ****************************************************************
  1). A table that defines IMS versions that support restart from
  prior or superseding IMS versions was updated to support IMS V15
  QPP. However, that table was not propagated to version-dependent
  code in versions of IMS prior to IMS V15 QPP.
  
  2). The version of IMS that the job abended under is retrieved
  from the x'18' log record being used to restart the job. The
  version of IMS that the job is restarting under is retrieved
  from the IMS SCD being used by the job. Instead of using the IMS
  SCD value to generate the restarting IMS version, the data from
  the x'18' log record was used. Similarly, the IMS SCD value was
  used, instead of the data from the x'18' log record, to
  determine the version of IMS under which the job abended.
  

Problem conclusion

• 1). Upon application of this PTF, jobs under PRF control that
  abend under IMS V15 QPP will successfully restart under a
  previous version of IMS.
  
  2). Upon application of this PTF, the IRT040I message that is
  generated when a job is restarted under a different version of
  IMS from which the job originally abended, will report the
  correct original and restarting versions of IMS.
