APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Creating an HTTP server instance with the install_ihs script may
    result in the following errors in the postinstall process:
    postinstall failed, rc = 1
    check /u/wwwserv/abcd/logs/postinst.log for more information
    postinst: failed to open file
    /u/wwwserv/abcd/conf/httpd.conf.default for writing
    postinst: (111)EDC5111I Permission denied.
    The problem appears to be caused by the "cp -p" from the
    install_ihs script, which preserves the ownership of the file
    from the SMP/E installed filesystem. The SMP/E install was run
    with a user id other than the one running the install_ihs
    script.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM HTTP Server V7R0 and later on *
    * z/OS that try to use different userids for *
    *                  SMP/E and "install_ihs".                    *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The "install_ihs" script creates files *
    * owned by the SMP/E user instead of the *
    *                      current user.                           *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply this fix if install_ihs fails with *
    *                  permission errors.                          *
    ****************************************************************
    "install_ihs" uses cp -p to copy files from read-only to
    read/write filesystems, but this preserves the userid that ran
    the SMP/E install. These files can't be modified by subsequent
    "install_ihs" postinstall actions.

Problem conclusion

  • The "install_ihs" script was modified to not call "cp -p" on
    files copied from the read-only filesystem to the read/write
    filesystem.

    This fix is targeted for IBM HTTP Server fix packs:
    - 7.0.0.23
    - 8.0.0.3
