POWER9 IBM i P20 (and greater) systems 5250 interactive performance and CPI1479

How To

Summary

This document describes POWER9 IBM i P20 (and greater) systems with questions regarding 5250 interactive performance, CPI1479, and server firmware related aspect.

Environment

POWER9 IBM i P20 (and greater) systems

Steps

Important Information:  Verify POWER9 IBM i P20 or greater systems using 5250 Interactive interfaces (such as OLTP, Green screen, 5250 session, pass-through, or telnet jobs)  were ordered with the '100% 5250' feature.  A VET code with 100% Interactive (5250) CPW allowed is a requirement for P20 and greater systems that run 5250 interactive workloads.
This feature is checked in VL930_068 and more current server firmware levels.
Use one of the following methods to verify the system was ordered with 100% interactive threshold:
    DSPPFRDTA command
Access ASMI, signon with admin userid, On Demand Utilities, VET Capability Settings, then view if "i5/OS 100% interactive capacity" is True or False
Without the '100% 5250 feature', a CPI1479 message will appear in the QSYSOPR message queue and interactive performance will be poor while batch jobs remain unaffected.
Contact your Business Partner or IBM Sales Representative to order the '100% 5250' feature for P20 (or greater) system using 5250 Interactive interfaces.
After applying VL930_068 or higher, if your interactive workload is severely impacted and you cannot reach your Business Partner or IBM Sales Representative, contact the IBM iGSC at 800-IBM-SERV or http://ibm.biz/IBMisupport for IBM i software support.
