How to analyze the reason code for the PARTID_BOOT_REASON error log?

Cause

A PARTID_BOOT_REASON error will get logged after rebooting the system.

Answer

The purpose of the PARTID_BOOT_REASON error log is to show the reason for the system reboot. The possible reason for the system reboot is listed as below.

Value Description

0x00 Not specified
0x01 Simplified remote restart
0x02 Timed power on
0x03 Auto power restart after power failure
0x04 Auto IPL with CEC
0x05 Auto IPL after system dump
0x06 White button power on
0x07 - 0xFF Other (any other reason)

Reasons 0x03 - 0x05 indicate that the reboot was caused by system failures and need to be investigated. The rest of reasons are for informational purpose only. It is permissible for the platform to implement additional boot reasons as needed. They are specified with reasons 0x07 - 0xFF. Other than reasons 0x03 - 0x05, there is no need to be concerned with the PARTID_BOOT_REASON log entry.
