IBM z DevOps Software Support Lifecycle Policy

Release Notes

Abstract

IBM z DevOps Software has a modified IBM Continuous Delivery (CD) Lifecycle Policy with customization.

Content

The software support lifecycle policy for IBM Z DevOps Software uses the IBM Continuous Delivery (CD) Software Support Lifecycle Policy (with customizations).

IBM z DevOps Software Support Lifecycle Policy

The IBM z DevOps Software follows the IBM Continuous Delivery (CD) Software Support Lifecycle Policy, adhering in every way except as listed below.

  • At this time, IBM z DevOps Software does not have any plans for a Long Term Support Release (LTSR) option.
  • In addition to IBM software and products, IBM z DevOps Software includes components derived from Open Source Software and Red Hat products. Support for all of these is available through the vendor where the Red Hat product was obtained or the necessary open source community. See section "IBM support for open source and third party software policy" in IBM Support Handbook.
  • Updating the component parts of Z DevOps products with later versions of the included open source components is not supported.
  • Some products within IBM Z DevOps Software use a major.minor.patch numbering scheme. (If not specified in the announcement letter, the product still uses V.R.M.F.)

Given a version number MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH:

  • MAJOR is incremented for a major function update and incompatible API changes may be included. This indicates a new 2+1 lifecycle.
  • MINOR is incremented for CD update packages and does not restart 2 +1 lifecycle.
  • PATCH is incremented when only bug fixes are included and does not restart 2 +1 lifecycle.)
  • IBM Z DevOps Software treats each major version (as in major.minor.patch semantic versioning) as a new IBM CD Release with new support dates.  New minor versions are equivalent to an IBM CD "CD update package".
  • IBM expects that clients will upgrade to one of the two most recent CD update packages to receive ongoing security updates and defect fixes.
