Error description
APAR Type: Field Approver Initials: TR Severity: 2 Reported Release: 630 Compid: 5608A41CI Distributed Installer ABSTRACT: NT agent won't start after remote deploy updateagent PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: For some systems, the NT agent won't restart after update via remote deploy (tacmd updateagent). It also sill not restart manually after the update. If the agent is uninstalled and reinstalled, it starts normally. When the problem happens, the install log shows this message: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. That same service message results regardless of whether the start attempt was made via the MTEMS or "kinconfg -sKNT -L". If the start attempt is made with "net start net start kntcma_primary", this message results: The Service is not responding to the control function. If "<CANDLEHOME>\TMAITM6\kntcma.exe TEST" is used to launch the agent in test mode, this message results: kntcma.exe - Entry Point Not Found The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameA could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL. The key is "<CANDLEHOME>\TMAITM6\PSAPI.DLL". If this file exists (normally with 28944 bytes), the agent does not start as described above. If the file is removed (or hidden by rename), the agent starts normally. The problem systems are Windows 2003 and started with ITM at version 6.20.00.00. However, the former is not a prerequisite. ITM 6.20.00.00 (and possibly earlier) appears to set up the problem condition on any level of Windows. RECREATE INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Install NT agent 6.20.00.00 on Windows 2003. 2. Upgrade the agent to 6.30.05.00. 3. Observe the failure.
Local fix
Rename or remove "<CANDLEHOME>\TMAITM6\PSAPI.DLL", then start the agent.
Problem summary
Windows OS Agent (KNT) does not start after upgrade to 6.3.0 FP5. File PSAPI.DLL in the Windows directory, the ITMHOME\InstallITM, ITMHOME\CMS, and ITMHOME\TMAITM6 directories is not compatible with Windows 2008 and above.
Problem conclusion
Delete PSAPI.DLL from the directories where it was installed and place the appropriate 32-bit version of the file in the ITMHOME\InstallITM directory. Also place the ITMHOME\InstallITM directory as the first directory in the System PATH and remove any other occurrences of ITMHOME\InstallITM directory that appears in the System PATH. The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance packages: | fix pack | 6.3.0-TIV-ITM-FP0007
Temporary fix
On 32-bit Systems, delete PSAPI.DLL from the following directories: Windows, ITMHOME\InstallITM, ITMHOME\CMS, and ITMHOME\TMAITM6. Copy the PSAPI.DLL from the c:\Windows\System32 directory to the ITMHOME\InstallITM directory. Finally, update the System Path variable to remove ITMHOME\InstallITM and add it to the beginning of the System Path variable. On 64-bit systems, delete PSAPI.DLL from the following directories: Windows, ITMHOME\InstallITM, ITMHOME\CMS, and ITMHOME\TMAITM6. Copy the PSAPI.DLL from the c:\Windows\SysWOW64 directory to the ITMHOME\InstallITM directory. Finally, update the System Path variable to remove ITMHOME\InstallITM and add it to the beginning of the System Path variable.
