Abstract

IBM Storage Virtualize 3-Site Orchestrator is a command-line based application that runs on a separate Linux host. It configures and manages supported replication configurations on IBM Storage Virtualize products.

IBM Storage Virtualize 3-Site Orchestrator coordinates replication of data for disaster recovery and high availability scenarios between systems that are in three geographically dispersed sites.

Data is replicated from the primary or production site to two alternative sites. This feature ensures that if a disaster situation occurs at any one of the sites, the remaining two sites can establish a consistent replication operation with minimal data transfer. The remote-copy relationships are synchronous or asynchronous, depending on which site failed.

It is possible to configure IBM Storage Virtualize 3-Site Orchestrator to manage replications in both Metro Mirror and in HyperSwap configurations. Both configurations define sites and links between each site.

Prerequisites

To install, configure, and manage 3-Site Orchestrator, the installation must meet several hardware and software requirements.

3-Site Orchestrator Requirements

Consider the following requirements for 3-Site Orchestrator:

Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux® (RHEL) version 7.5, or later. Then, install 3-Site Orchestrator on a 64-bit architecture server.
The server must have a minimum of 4 GB of random access memory (RAM) and 4-core microprocessors.
IP network access to all three sites must be available.
The OpenSSH utility must be installed.
Password-less SSH login must be available to all three sites from the 3-Site Orchestrator host.
The physical location of the host can be at any of the three sites or at a fourth site.

Systems Requirements

Consider the following requirements for the systems:

All systems must be running a version of software between 8.3.1 and 8.6.0. Systems using the 3-site orchestrator cannot upgrade to 8.6.1.0 or later.
All three systems must have Fibre Channel remote copy partnerships.
For systems with v8.4.2 or later, Systems can have remote copy Fibre Channel or IP partnerships.

Firewall Requirements

Three firewall ports must be open for events and SSH tunnelling. Also, port 7003 must be open.
