PI31658: UNEXPECTED BEHAVIOR WITH HIVE AND JAQL SHELLS WHEN AN INCORRECT CORE-SITE.XML IS PRESENT IN THE USER'S HOME DIRECTORY

Error description

  • The hive / jaql shells seems to use the core-site.xml in the
home directory and give unexpected results. For example if an
invalid core-site.xml is present in the home directory you will
see:

java.lang.RuntimeException: java.lang.RuntimeException:
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The content of elements must
consist of well-formed character data or markup.

or if it is a valid core-site.xml belonging to another cluster,
the operation will make an attempt to work with that cluster.

e.g.

$ /opt/ibm/biginsights/hive/bin/hive -e "CREATE TABLE bitab
(foo INT, bar STRING); LOAD DATA LOCAL INPATH
'/opt/ibm/biginsights/hive/examples/files/kv1.txt' OVERWRITE
INTO TABLE bitab"

  • Remove the conflicting core-site.xml from the user's home
directory
