Summary

Vulnerabilities have been discovered in libpng that is embedded in the IBM FSM. This bulletin addresses these vulnerabilities.

DESCRIPTION:
libpng is vulnerable to a buffer overflow, caused by improper bounds checking by the png_set_PLTE() and png_get_PLTE() functions. By persuading a victim to open a specially-crafted PNG file, a remote attacker could overflow a buffer and execute arbitrary code on the system.

DESCRIPTION:
libpng could allow a remote attacker to obtain sensitive information, caused by an out-of-bounds read in the png_convert_to_rfc1123 function. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to obtain sensitive information.

For 1.1.x.x, 1.2.x.x, 1.3.0.x and 1.3.1.x IBM recommends upgrading to a fixed, supported version/release of the product.

You should verify applying this fix does not cause any compatibility issues. The fix disables MD5 signature hash by default. IBM recommends that you review your entire environment to identify other areas where you have enabled the MD5 signature hash and take appropriate mitigation and remediation actions.
