IBM Support

Increasing the WebSphere Application Server memory for IBM Case Manager on Solaris

Release Notes

Abstract

To improve performance for the Case Manager Builder application, increase the maxpermsize setting in WebSphere Application Server.

Content

For IBM Case Manager installations on a Solaris server, you might encounter memory issues when using Case Manager Builder. For example, you might see the following error:

java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space

You can prevent these issues by increasing the memory limit in WebSphere Application Server.

To increase the memory limit in WebSphere Application Server:

  1. In the WebSphere Application Server administrative console, navigate to WebSphere application servers > server_name > Java and Process Management > Process definition > Java Virtual Machines.
  2. In the Generic JVM arguments field, append the following parameter: -XX:MaxPermSize=384m
  3. Save your changes and restart the WebSphere Application Server instance.
  4. For clustered installations, repeat these changes for each node in the cluster.
