APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • ces ip address assignment fails when dev name length
    longer than 16 chars.
    
    Reported in:
    Spectrum Scale 5.0.5.0 and operating system RHEL 7.7.
    
    Known Impact:
    CES service outage
    

Local fix

  • Manually remove 'label' in ip assign cmdline in
    mmcesfunction.sh:
    
    # works for ipv4 and ipv6
    cesLogAndRunExtendedIpMgmt "enableIP" "$ip_cmd a add
    $ipAddress/$prefix dev $ifName label $ifName
    
    The 'label' attr is for ipv6 and should not effect ipv4
    network
    
    To fix this issue, the label attr will be removed.
    

Problem summary

  • After an upgrade from 5.0.4.3 to 5.0.5.0,
    none of the ces ip can be assigned.
    

Problem conclusion

  • Benefits of the solution:
    CES IP addresses can now be assigned.

    Symptom:
    Hang of ?mmces address add?.
    Other internal CES IP processing could also hang.

    ALL Linux OS environments (CES nodes)
