Upgrading from IBM MQ 8.0 or IBM MQ 9.0 to IBM MQ 9.2 in the MQ Appliance

Summary

You cannot upgrade a version 8.0 or 9.0 IBM MQ Appliance directly to version 9.2. You must upgrade to version 9.1 and then to version 9.2.

On summary, the new upgrade process is as follows:

1. Suspend the appliance that you want to upgrade first (sethagrp -s).
2. Upgrade the appliance that was suspended from the HA (boot image command) to IBM MQ 9.1.
3. Wait for appliance to come back online, migrate each queue manager to the new level. (sethagrp -u QMgrName)
4. Upgrade the other appliance to IBM MQ 9.1.
5. Verify that queue managers status is Normal and that they are running on their preferred location.
6. Suspend the appliance that you want to upgrade first to IBM MQ 9.2 (sethagrp -s).
7. Upgrade the appliance that was suspended from the HA (boot image command) to IBM MQ 9.2.
8. Resume the appliance once is back online. (sethagrp -r)
9. Upgrade the other appliance to IBM MQ 9.2.
10. Resume the second appliance once is back online
11. Verify that queue managers status is Normal and that they are running on their preferred location.
