#16048 Saving the SMTP configuration fails with status code 406

User receives an error message "The SMTP settings were not saved. Request failed with status code 406" when trying to configure an SMTP server for e-mail notification.
Description
When something goes wrong while configuring an SMTP server the user receives a generic error message "The SMTP settings were not saved.

  1. In the main menu, navigate to Administer -> Configure platform
  2. Switch to SMTP settings tab.
  3. Enter SMTP server details
  4. Click Save
  5. If there is a problem the user will receive a generic message "The SMTP settings were not saved. Request failed with status code 406"
Solution
Please perform the following checks in order to identify the root cause of the issue:
  1. Check whether the SMPT server host can be reached (Note that pinging the host sometimes is not possible even if a specific port can be reached - see number 2).
  2. Check whether the relevant port number can be reached on the host.
  3. Check whether you the credentials are valid.
  4. Check whether the specified account exists.
  5. Check whether the user is authorized to access the specified account.
