Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of DB2 Data Archive Expert * * release 110 are affected. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: In the Data Archive Expert (DAE) base * * level functionality, the commit * * interval setting value only was applied * * during the archive phase of an archive * * specifcation execution. That is, when * * the number of rows physically moved * * from the source table to the archive * * target matched the commit interval * * value, a commit was performed. However, * * the commit interval was not applied to * * delete phase of an archive execution. * * The delete phase is an all or nothing * * unit of work. This made recovery from * * an error during the delete phase * * straight forward because a rollback * * would restore the rows. However, for * * very large volumes of data, it became * * impractical because of locking issues * * and rollback duration. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** See Problem Description.
Problem conclusion
Temporary fix
Comments
The purpose of PQ79107 is to enable the commit interval setting value to be recognized during the delete phase of archive execution. Thus, when the number of rows physically deleted matches the the commit interval, a commit will be performed. If an error occurs while deleting data, any deleted rows are rolled back to the previous commit point. Data Archive Expert changes the state of the archive specification to PDEL, indicating that the archive specification has one or more versions that need to be completed (i.e. rows remaining that require deletion). After performing the "complete" action on an archive specification version that is in PDEL state, Data Archive Expert resumes deleting the rows from the last commit point that precedes the error that occurred.
