DFHSO0002 error 080C in DFHSOSE during CICS initialization

Troubleshooting

Problem

You are setting up SSL support and during CICS startup, you receive message DFHSO0002.with severe error code x'080C' in DFHSOSE.

Symptom

DFHSO0002 A severe error (code x'080C') has occurred in module DFHSOSE.

Cause

Missing server certificate in keyring

Diagnosing The Problem

A dump will show that CICS is initializing, and SSL and GSK are being initialized. During GSK initialization, SSL rejects a certificate and CICS reports it in the trace with the exception in DFHSOSE:

SOSE *EXC* - SYSTEM_SSL_ERROR GSK_RESPONSE(GSK_ERR_ASN) FUNCTION(INITIALIZE_SSL) RESPONSE(DISASTER) REASON(GSK_ERROR) GSK_RETURN_CODE(A)

A RACDCERT LISTRING(ringname) output shows there are only certificate authority type certificates within the keyring. There is no evidence of a server certificate for the CICS region within the keyring.

Resolving The Problem

Add the required server certificate to the keyring. See Configuring CICS to use SSL for more information.
