Creating new project failed with error "Error initalizing asset files root: Bad response while creating root dir:"

Troubleshooting

Problem

Creating new project in Cloud Pak for Data failed with error "Error initalizing asset files root: Bad response while creating root dir:"

Symptom

Error when Creating new project

image 4850

Project exporting will also report an error due to PV storage getting full.

Cause

Persistent volume storage is full. The default size of the PV "file-api-claim" is set to 30GB.  When the usage is beyond the PV limit, users will be prevented from creating new project, notebook or importing assets.

you can check the storage size by the following commands

  oc exec -it $( oc get pods | grep asset-files-api | awk {'print $1'}) df -h

Environment

  • Cloud Pak for Data 2.5, 3.0.0, 3.0.1
  • OpenShift 3.11
  • Portworx

Resolving The Problem

You can fix this issue by increasing the PVC size.
1. Check if the storage class for the PVC allows volume expansion. To expand volume the StorageClass must have :
allowVolumeExpansion: true.
    2. Get the current size of the PVC
oc get pvc | grep api
    file-api-claim                                Bound     pvc-352c3a62-9336-11ea-88e1-00163e01d86d   30Gi       RWX
    3. Increase the volume size
      oc edit pvc file-api-claim
and update the size to 100GB:
    oc patch pvc file-api-claim -p '{"spec":{"resources": {"requests": {"storage": "100Gi"}}}}'
