Question

DVM Db2 Performance in comparison to Db2 Connect

Answer

Example of a test run as follows:
Performance of Db2 for z/OS image
  • First row "No MDS" means going through Db2 Connect.
  • Second row "MDS" means going through the DVM server using DRDA to access Db2.
  • Third row "MDS w/Db2 Direct" means going through DVM server using direct Db2 VSAM file access.
  • To ensure a valid test, parallelism is used with both DVM w/Db2 Direct and Db2 Connect. In DVM, parallelism is set using MRCC=n.
  • Db2 Direct is a DVM product option to access Db2 directly accessing the underlying VSAM files.
