Abstract
In rare cases, systems containing IBM FlashCore Modules (FCMs) running either firmware 1_2_9 and earlier or 2_0_7 and earlier can experience data corruption if there are multiple consecutive losses of power to the drive.
Systems that do not contain any FCMs are not affected.

IBM has identified a rare combination of events that can lead to data corruption when an FCM encounters multiple, consecutive power losses. In this scenario, the drive can perform a format while still configured as part of a RAID array. The RAID software is not notified of this format and continues to use the drive as a member of the array. The system will immediately start generating many 1691 errors in the event log, and return invalid data from the drive to the host.
Fix
This issue affect ONLY FlashSystem running either FCM1 firmware 1.2.9 and earlier and/or FCM2 firmware 2.0.7 and earlier
- IBM FlashSystem BELOW 8.2.1.13 / 8.3.1.5 / 8.4.0.2 should upgrade to the recommended PTF to get fixes in APAR HU02313 and HU02186.
- Upgrade the FCM1 / FCM2 firmware to the recommended drive firmware.
Note: FCMs running 1_x firmware cannot upgrade to the 2_x firmware.
